Molestation, or eve-teasing, means teasing a girl. The menace of eve teasing is very common these days. Some boys, in the name of love, tease girls. This is not only physical harassment but also mental harassment for girls. They feel fearful while coming out of the house and going to school or college, and many girls across the county drop out of school or college. Many face this disturbing experience again and again.

Reasons behind the menace of eve-teasing:

Lack of moral values. These days, moral values have degraded in our society. The youth have lost the sense of right and wrong. They do not realise what torture a girl goes through while she is molested.
Movies are also a big reason for these incidents. In the movies, the hero is shown teasing girls in the name of love. In some movies, the hero is shown as extremely impulsive and mad after girls. These heroes are followed by many youths in our county. So, they just try to copy their favourite actors.
India is a male-dominated society. In our country, all the restrictions are imposed on girls. What she would wear, by what time she would come back home, and where she would go. Every time girls are instructed on the dos and don’ts of life, on the other hand, boys can do whatever they want.
There is a general mentality among the boys that the girls are weaker than the boys and will tolerate whatever is done to them. This mentality gives them fake confidence for molestation.
Another reason is the attitude of society towards girls. In our society, if any such incident happens, people in the locality start blaming the girl instead of the boy. Society associates the incident with the prestige of their family. So, the girls stay silent. This is, in turn, encouraging molesters.
In our country, the punishment for eve-teasing is not very severe. Even the culprit gets bail very easily. Sometimes it is seen that, even after coming out of jail, he starts disturbing the girl and threatens her as well.
In movies, the hero is shown molesting the girl in the name of love. Youth follow the same path and are involved in these activities.

How to stop the menace of eve teasing:

Teachers and parents should teach moral lessons to the boys and give them lessons about how to treat girls.
At home, boys should be taught how to respect girls.
Girls should be given Self-defence training should be given at the school and college levels. So, even if she is alone, she can face any situation with confidence.
Girls feel uncomfortable while reporting the incident to the male police officer. So, the number of female police officers as well as the number of female police stations should be increased.
CCTV cameras should be installed on public transportation and in all prominent locations. So, the offender can be caught easily.
Female police in civil dress should be deployed near schools and colleges, especially near girls’ colleges. If there is a fear of getting caught, these incidents will not happen.
Strict punishment should be given to any person involved in eve teasing.
Protection should be provided to the girls who report molestation to the police. Otherwise, the offender will keep harassing the girls.
Society should also come forward in these types of incidents. Generally, if people around you see any such thing happening, they stay away due to fear.

Women make up half the population of our country. Without the contribution of women, we cannot develop our country. If women feel safe, then only they will come out of the home freely to study or work and contribute to the development of our nation. Without stopping the menace of eve teasing, we cannot expect the participation of half of the population of our country, and without the participation of women, we cannot make our country develop.
