Advantages of Love Marriage: –

  • Marriage is a life-long commitment. So, when choosing a life partner a person should be given full liberty.
  • In Love marriages, the couple knew each other very well before marriage. It reduces conflicts.
  • Love marriages promote inter-caste and inter-religion marriage
  • Generally, equality prevails in love marriages and women are treated equally.

Disadvantages of Love Marriage: –

  • The couple who goes for a love marriage is mostly independent. If they want to get out of the relationship, they do not consider their relative’s opinions much.
  • In some parts of our country, love marriages are socially not unacceptable.
  • Youngsters may confuse attraction with love.
  • Love is not the only thing we need in life. One should also check the reality like the family background, economic conditions, the environment they grew up in etc.

 Arranged Marriage

Advantages of Arranged Marriage: –

  • In Arranged marriages, parents do inquire about each other’s family and their circle. So, there is a high probability that one will get into a relationship with a similar kind of family as theirs.
  • Elders have great experience in life so youth should trust them in a decision like marriage.
  • In an arranged marriage, elders of the family gather full information about the bride or groom as well as the background of the family.
  • In case of difficult times, elders help to come out of the situation.
  • Couples most likely think about both of their families. So, they will learn to adjust, which is a very good quality for any relationship.

Disadvantages of Arranged Marriage: –

  • Couples do not know each other well if they spend less time together before marriage. It is seen that after the marriage they find their views different from the partner which leads to a break in the marriage.
  • In the name of arranged marriages, and forced marriages are still prevalent in many parts of India.
  • Too much submissiveness to elders may restrict a couple from divorcing, even if they do not have love between them anymore.
  • People who go for arranged marriage may not be that comfortable discussing everything in detail before marriage. This may cause problems after marriage.
  • Although the divorce rate is lower in arranged marriages, still we cannot say that the couples are living together with complete happiness. It is just the social commitment that they are fulfilling.

Whether it is love or arranged marriage, a relationship will work only if both partners are serious and honest in the relationship. Life partners must be selected according to their own will and not by force. These days, in Indian arranged marriages people are taking time to learn about each other before marriage, which is a sign of evolving society.
